May 2018: Elevating dining experiences to new heights this spring, Gran Hotel Miramar has unveiled an enchanting new gourmet getaway high above the ancient city of Malaga: Media Luna. The stylish rooftop deli and bar is the crowning glory of this storied ‘grande dame’, serving sophisticated Spanish cuisine, with sleek contemporary decor and al fresco seating, and an unrivalled view of the Bay of Malaga.

Located atop the city’s most iconic luxury hotel, the sky-high hideaway serves an assortment of exquisite delicatessen tapas showcasing some of Andalucía’s finest produce and seasonal ingredients. Executive Chef, Diego Nicas, who trained at three-Michelin starred Akelarre in San Sebastian and worked at the prestigious Hilton in London’s Park Lane, has created a contemporary menu featuring small plates of local Iberico ham and toasted artisan breads and smoked sardines with sun blushed tomatoes, to two-month matured Amelie de Claire oysters. Highlights include caviar from one of the oldest and largest sturgeon farms in Europe, Spain’s award-winning RioFrio Farm. Operating since the early 1960s, the fish farm produces the world’s first organic caviar from the Acipenser Naccari trout, a breed that is indigenous to Andalucía.

Drinks include a refreshing selection of signature cocktails and a premium list of Spanish wines. Channelling a seductive atmosphere, with sophisticated leather seating and soft lighting, paired with laidback music for chilled out vibes, the terrace is one of the city’s most alluring destinations to enjoy the long spring and summer evenings.

Rivalling some of the most iconic culinary destinations, Malaga’s food scene has exploded attracting self-proclaimed foodies from across the globe. From newly opened gastro markets in the Old Town to sophisticated beach-side terraces and full to bursting gourmet tapas bars tucked down its narrow alleyways, Malaga is now at the forefront of the gastronomic scene. This year, from 17-27 May, the Old Town’s ‘Plaza la Marina’ will transform for one of the most eagerly anticipated and internationally recognised foodie events of the year, the Malaga Gastronomy Festival: 10 days of aromas and flavours in which Malaga will become the national food capital.
